Building Balanced Leaders For The Worlds Communities

What is SigEp?

"This fraternity will be different; it will be based on the love of God and the principle of peace through brotherhood...its purpose shall be to intensify and perpetuate friendship and promote happiness among its members, to encourage literature and education, and to create such sentiments, mold such opinions, and perform such deeds as shall conduce to the building of a noble and pure manhood." -- Original Charter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, October 1902

Founded on the premise of being different, SigEp has always strived to set itself apart by being the innovator:
  • The first fraternity to set up an Educational Foundation
  • The first fraternity to establish and fund a traveling staff to consult with chapters and alumni.
  • The first fraternity to offer Regional Leadership Academies (now the Carlson Leadership Academies).
  • The first fraternity to open chapters in all 50 states.
  • The first fraternity to openly accept all men, regardless of age, race, color, creed, religion, or sexual orientation.
  • The first fraternity to receive a grant from the United States Governement (FIPSE) to improve post-secondary education.
  • The first fraternity to eliminate pledging - through The Balanced Man Program.
The Balanced Man Program is hands-down one of the most revolutionary programs SigEp has produced. A little over 10 years ago, SigEp set out to "transform the pledging process from that of proving worthiness to that of achievement in the chapter and community."

SigEp wanted something that would appeal to a different kind of student - a student with high ideals, aspirations, morals, and personal goals. SigEp also wanted a program that would make a man better person for having joined our Fraternity.

What resulted is what you now see before you in the form of The Balanced Man Program.
